Welcome to Chasing Shadows
Based in Tucson Arizona, Chasing Shadows is a team of amateur ghost explorers. We are exploring our paranormal world, not for profit or fame, but for the pure pleasure of learning about the unseen. So many people believe in or have heard of hauntings, that we cannot discount all the rumors or stories we come across. There are far too many claims for them all to be false. So we go after the stories that we feel compelled to explore. We have come across our share of people just wanting attention, but we have also witnessed some unexplainable events. This website will eventually display some of what we do.
Ghosts What are they anyway? Are they just the residual emotion of some tragic event? Or are they actually spirits of someone passed on who does not know it? How do they interact with our world? These are questions we all have and for which are trying to find answers. Merriam_Webster gives the definition as "a disembodied soul ; especially : the soul of a dead person believed to be an inhabitant of the unseen world or to appear to the living in bodily likeness". They go on to define a ghost as a demon or spirit. This thought brings us into the supernatural realm. Chasing Shadows prefers to stay in the paranormal world or else we end up in theological debates that go on and on and on and get no work done. How do we determine if a case is paranormal or supernatural? By asking questions of the people plagued by the haunting. If it seems to us that the case is supernatural, we will help the victims find a qualified priest or clergyman. Perhaps we may find a demonologist that can exorcise their home. If it seems to us to be paranormal, then we will do what we do best and try to find answers to help, if not solve the dilemma.
Poltergeist These are the fun ones. These are playful ghosts rarely of malicious intent. Objects move, doors bang, kitchens get messed up. Picture a three year old child left to do as it pleases, and you have an idea of a poltergeist. The word itself is German meaning "Noisy Ghost". Most of the time, a poltergeist needs a catalyst to make an appearance. Commonly a female residing in the home may be linked to the poltergeist activity. An adolescent female is more likely to bring about this sort of activity.
Inhuman Spirit Scary! Often nasty in nature, and loaded with cunning and intelligence. They want to be seen and heard. But mostly they want to be left alone! These can harm the ghost hunter physically. Often times demonic.
Residual Haunting Most common of all. Imagine a video playing on a looped player, it will keep playing whether you watch it or not. This type of haunting does not seem to know we are interacting in their world, since they just seem to go through the motions of their former life. Often times they are linked to an object in the home (furniture, a picture, something hidden in the wall, their final resting place, etc.). This type haunting can be both exciting and frightening to witness.
Shadow People What are they? I don't know either. But I aim to find out. This elusive specter is fast and may only give a fleeting glimpse, often from the corner of the eye. You look and its gone. Most descriptions state the Shadow Person is a black mass around four feet tall, very fast and silent. Rarely is this thing caught on film. But when it is, it makes you think.
Orbs What are these mysterious balls of light that capture the eye in may photographs? Bugs, dust, moisture in the air. At least most of the time. Almost always in dusty locations, especially when the photographer uses a flash or other artificial light. On the other hand, photos taken without the use of a flash sometimes produce orbs and these we will examine an judge relevant on a case by case basis. Chasing Shadows follows the saying "Just say no to Orbs, they just splatter on the windshield anyway"
Haunted Places
Public Buildings Public buildings are better for us to explore due to the fact that we can hear more stories from eye-witnesses. The more validation the better. Libraries, government offices, mortuaries and other public centers offer us many opportunities to acquire evidence of the paranormal.
Private Sites Private locations like warehouses, graveyards, and residences are harder to get into and provide less verifiable paranormal activity. Fewer witnesses equals less verification. But they are still fun to investigate.
